Like grilled cheese but better (actually, wait is there?) these chocolate sandwiches can be made with whatever kind of bread you like or have around, and any kind of chocolate too. I used dark chips, but semi sweet or milk would be just as nice. Or better yet, make a mix on the platter. Optional toppings make them even more special, my favorite being flaked sea salt, but some cinnamon sugar or a dusting of powdered sugar would be just as nice.
1 loaf of crusty bread (ciabatta or baguette are great)
1-1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chips
flaked sea salt, cinnamon, powdered sugar, cayenne, for serving (optional)
Slice the bread
Melt some butter in a skillet. Build the sandwiches by placing the chocolate between two slices of bread and place in the hot skillet. Press down and cook on the first side until golden. Carefully flip and cook for another minute or two before transferring onto a platter.
Sprinkle with flaked sea salt, cinnamon sugar, or whatever you fancy and tuck in.
